Nicknamed Number 20 (the 20 th guitar I ever bought), it actually took me a few years to finally land one for my collection. I had wanted to order the '61 SG RI since college as I loved the look of the small pickguard and chrome hardware, not to mention it always reminded me of Angus Young of AC/DC. I came close to buying one on several occasions but something always came up. One time in particular I went to the local store specifically to buy the SG, only to walk out with a Gibson Firebird. Decisions, decisions, decisions - there are too many cool guitars and I want them all.

A little background on the '61 reissue: in 1961, the traditional Les Paul Standard received a makeover which included a thinner body with sharply pointed horns and a new name - the SG. Today's reissue features the small pickguard and nickel-plated hardware of the original '61 and is a real rocker. It is very light weight and the full access to all the frets makes wailing on one a lot of fun.

What is kind of funny about the SG is the size. The guitar (SG) looked really big slung around Angus's neck and I always thought that the body must have been massive. In fact, the body is not that much bigger than a Les Paul. I never thought that Angus was small person and as a result it gave the appearance that the guitar was bigger. I like playing the SG but the neck is thinner than I prefer so she does not get the same attention as my '65 SG Jr. which has a beefier neck profile and one hot single P90 pickup. This guitar is the one, however; that always gets abused when I want to play AC/DC. She always puts me in the mood for AC/DC, especially after hitting an open E chord from which you can launch into one of about 50 different AC/DC songs. Give it a try, hit an open E chord and then launch into Dirty Deeds, Back in Back or TNT etc. That is what it is all about! -   having fun while playing a cool guitar.
