Lynch Sub Camo #7234

Most 80’s guitar fans will instantly recognize the bold colors and pattern on this guitar which were made famous by George Lynch. Lynch’s original Charvel was highly visible during the "Under Lock & Key" tours of the fall 1985 through 1986 and appeared in Dokken’s “Just Got Luck” video. This guitar was part of a limited run of 10 replicas made at the Charvel Custom Shop in 2007 faithfully recreating George Lynch’s “Sub” Charvel. Sadly after the Fender buy-out, Charvel will no longer make artist replica guitars.

Information from George Lynch’s website (gear section) state that Lynch’s original was the last guitar he received from Charvel and it was where the beginning ideas for the ESP Kamikaze idea came from. Many features including the camo paint theme, reverse headstock, bridge pickup directly bolted to the body and a single coil in the neck position are all features also found on Lynch’s ESP Kamikaze guitars. This guitar was highly visible during the "Under Lock & Key" tours of the fall 1985 through 1986, predating the appearance of the ESP Kamikaze in the late spring of 1986.

There were a couple differences between Lynch’s original and these replicas: the replicas have a Floyd nut whereas the original had a Kahler nut mounted behind the regular nut. Also the graphic on the replica covers the entire body in contrast to the original which had no graphic on the back (plain black back).

This run did encounter a few issues as Matt (Matt’s Music) explains: “When these guitars were first delivered to me I received 10 of them, 9 of which had to be returned due to finish problems. I sold the one of ten that was ok. After they were repaired, only 7 of them were returned to me for some reason. Unfortunately 4 of those had to be returned again because of shipping damage. I sold the 3 that were ok, bringing the total number I sold to 4.”

“After all the problems with these guitars I figured enough was enough and cancelled my order on the remaining 6 pieces. So, depending on how many of the ones I returned were able to be fixed, there could be up to 6 sub camo's that will be popping up at other dealers.”

Regardless of all the headaches on getting these to the finish line I am thrilled with mine (#4/10) which I purchased from fellow collector and friend Phil. I am a sucker for graphics that make a statement so it was a no brainer when Phil decided to part with this one. In addition to the cool pain, the single (neck) hum (bridge) pku layout is my favorite. Oh and did I mention how sexy the reverse pointy headstock looks…..yummy!!!
