Despite having a 4 digit serialized neck
plate (#1217), this Charvel guitar is in fact a prepro (pre-production or
pre-serialization guitar) manufactured in late 1981 (October 20th 1981). FYI, the earliest
examples of Charvel guitars with 4 digit serialized neck plates date from November 1981
(one month later). For example Charvel #1018 is dated 11-12-81.
So how did this guitar get its low serialized neck plate? The story goes that when the
original owner visited the factory to hand in his warranty card Grover gave him a quick
tour and showed him the new serialized neck plates. |
